February 23, 2012

The Northern California DX Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of Ned Stearns, AA7A, as the newest NCDXF board member. Ned was unanimously elected at the recent winter NCDXF board meeting.

Ned was first licensed in August 1963 at age 12 in Warren, OH. In 1975 he moved to Arizona and joined the Central Arizona DX Association (CADXA) and became incredibly radio-active.

Over the course of Cycle 22 and 23, Ned managed to collect a number of operating achievement awards including Top of the Honor Roll, 5BWAZ, Satellite DXCC, and the first ever 11-band DXCC (160 through 2 meters, inclusive). He has participated in many DXpeditions.

In 2005, Ned joined the world-renown VooDoo Contest in their annual trek to Africa to participate in the CQWW DX CW contests. He has been the station designer and is now the team co-leader of the VooDoo Contest Group.

In addition to being a HF and VHF DXer and contester, Ned has served the ARRL as a member and past-chairman of the ARRL Contest Advisory Committee, Vice Director of the Southwestern Division and, now member of the ARRL DX Advisory Committee. He is serving his third term as president of CADXA and is a long term member of the CADXA Board of Directors. He is a frequent speaker at clubs and conventions where he provides tales of his DXpedition travels as well as demonstration speeches on weak signal VHF and digital communication technology.
