When Al and his family moved to Memphis in the early 70s, his callsign changed to W4RIM. Upon returning to the Bay Area in early 1992, Al continued to sign W4RIM until he was able to regain his old K6RIM callsign in 1996.
Al has not yet participated in a major DXpedition, but has operated from the Cayman Islands as ZF2ON.
Currently, Al is Vice President of NCDXF. He has served as President of the Redwood Empire DX Association (1998-2000), President of the Northern California DX Club (1995-1996), and is a member of the Northern California Contest Club, the Marin Amateur Radio Club and the U.S.S. Pampanito Radio Club.
Al’s primary radio interest is HF DXing on CW, although during the last few years, he has become a more serious contest enthusiast.
Radio awards include No. 1 Honor Roll, the award of which Al is most proud.
Al is an attorney, now retired. He graduated from San Jose State College and received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. His practice in Memphis consisted almost entirely of civil litigation. Presently, Al serves as a mediator for the County of Marin, and recently he began serving as a part-time administrative judge deciding disputes involving animals.
